Nationally Recognised Training
To provide nationally recognised training to employees, businesses must become registered training organisations. With the RTO status, the business has proven that it can provide the kind of training that is nationally recognized for helping trainees learn the essential skills they need in their fields. Businesses that provide training outside of the RTO system are not eligible for the many benefits given to RTOs, and the training received by unregistered employers may not be recognized by other Australian employers.
With RTO status, a business is eligible for a number of benefits:
• Government funding is available for training apprentices. An employer can receive thousands of dollars in incentives for training apprentices and other trainees.
• Using the RTO logo allows businesses to show the nationally recognised status of their training programs, attracting new workers. The logo is used by businesses to show prospective employees what they have to gain by working for the company.
• Trainees are attracted to RTO companies because they want the best training for their fields. This creates a wider pool of applicants to choose from for RTOs.
An RTO is trusted to train apprentices and trainees with a high level of educational training. This includes delivering courses that are nationally recognised for their high quality. RTO companies can also create new courses in order to meet emerging demands in the workforce. Companies also have the option of providing training to foreign students in Australia who need job training. All RTO training is accepted all over the country.
Funding for Nationally Recognised Training
One of the primary reasons that employers strive for RTO status is to get the financial incentives given to businesses that train new employees. Hiring an apprentice and training them into a higher certificate level makes the employer eligible for a wide range of funding amounts. The incentive amounts depend on the field of study, the region and whether any special circumstances apply to the employee.
Both Australian government and regional government funds are available as well as specialized funding from the private sector and from universities. This funding is intended to offset the cost of training and encourage businesses to employ new trainees and apprentices.
TO qualify as an RTO, a business must have a training program that adheres to the standards of the Australian Quality Training Framework 2007. They must register with the registration authority of their local state or territory to become eligible. Businesses must describe in detail what type of training the company intends to provide, which fields that training will be in and what kind of qualifications it intends to issue to trainees. If the business is approved as an RTO, that status will last for five years. At the end of those five years, the business must renew its RTO status. In addition, there may be an audit during those five years to ensure that the business is still providing a high standard of nationally recognised training to remain eligible for RTO status.
